Bihar tremendous growth story continues this year and it’s not surprising that it has the highest growth rate in 2010-11.
An annual growth rate of 14.15 per cent – the highest for any state in the country – bears testimony to the spectacular turnaround that has taken place in Bihar in recent years. This would have been unthinkable less than a decade back, when Bihar used to lag behind the rest of the country in terms of most development indicators.
As per Bihar chambers of commerce “the manifold increase in state government’s own resource contribution from 9.26% in 2005-06 to the current contribution of 40% is clear-cut evidence that the state has made remarkable achievement on this front too”.
Significant changes like establishing rule of governance, setting up engines of growth, improvement in law and order, infrastructure development has improved Bihar’s development parameters significantly in the last few years. It’s also showing drastic improvement in Human Development index parameters like literacy rate, it has risen from 39% in 1991 to 47% in 2001 to 63.8% in 2011.
Hopefully the growth momentum will continue in the years to come and improve Bihar’s economy .
